When: Tuesday, July 26, 2011 10:00AM-12:00PM Where: Lake Buena Vista, Florida While the ultimate goal is to keep siblings together in foster or adoptive placements, there are times when this is not indicated. Perpetration, disability, or severe mental illness on the part of one sibling can sometimes affect the safety or well-being of the others. These decisions are complex and it is common for treatment team members to disagree on what outcome is best for the children. This workshop reviews national trends, judicial decisions, and the child welfare research pertaining to sibling placement. Participants will learn to integrate all considerations in these kinds of cases. This workshop will be presented at the 25th Annual Conference of the Foster Family-based Treatment Association at the Disney Resort in Florida. The Foster Family-based Treatment Association (FFTA) is an agency-led organization of treatment foster care providers established in 1988 with an initial purpose of defining and refining Treatment Foster Care practices. The Association’s membership is composed of agencies throughout North America currently operating treatment foster care programs. Organizations that are not direct service providers, but have an interest in the field, hold affiliate membership status. FFTA is assisted by recognized researchers and policy-makers in the fields of child welfare and mental health. FOR MORE INFORMATION: www.ffta.org When: Wednesday, August 24, 2011 2:00PM-5:00PM Where: Santa Fe, New Mexico Parent-Child Interventions from an Attachment Perspective Attachment is a two-way interaction between a parent and child. On the one hand, the parent's own attachment history will influence how she relates to and understands her child's emotions and behaviors. On the other, the child's history with the parent colors the way she perceives her parent as a source of comfort and support. In order to work effectively with children and families, clinicians need to address both of these dynamics. This workshop focuses on clinical interventions with children and families, with emphasis placed on identifying and treating parent-child attachment patterns. KEY TOPICS WILL INCLUDE
